Economics Book Recommendations for Kids

It’s never too early to expose good ideas to kids, especially if those ideas seem complicated. Economics is one of those topics that’s important in navigating through life but isn’t taught well in schools, if at all.

Why is economics important?

When you learn free market economics it’ll innoculate you from politicians’ lies, you’ll gain a better understanding of how society is governed by economics, and provide peaceful and practical solutions for social issues.

Sounds too complex for a kid to understand right? I think as adults, we underestimate what children are capable of grasping. Economics and other complex ideas are easy to understand if you frame it right in a way that relates to kids.

Some great examples of books that frame economics in an easy-to-understand manner are:

The Tuttle Twins series by Connor Boyack

Lessons from a Lemonade Stand: An Unconventional Guide to Government by Connor Boyack

Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? by Richard J. Maybury

Capitalism for Kids: Growing Up To Be Your Own Boss by Karl Hess

Common Sense Business for Kids by Kathryn Daniels

These are just a few books to get you started. Even if you don’t have kids, they break down economic concepts into enjoyable bites. I’d also recommend reading this out loud with your younger kids who are learning how to read.
