I jinxed myself. A week ago I established some personal goals like waking up at 8:30 to get more tasks done. Today I woke up before my alarm and felt like I actually had ample sleep. I haven’t slept like a baby in years it was a fantastic feeling. It also helped that I had a hefty steak and bell pepper dinner last night which made me feel tired.
However, that all changed and my goal of checking things off my to-do list went out the window. I thought today would be productive but instead I ended up in the ER. I fainted before my shift ended and my coworker was so worried that he called 911. I haven’t experienced this before except when I got my monthly flow and when I had altitude sickness. He thought maybe I had a history of seizures.
About thirty minutes before I fainted, I suddenly felt unreasonably nervous and filled with dread for no reason. Then a wave of nausea came over me so I sat down for a few minutes and drank small sips of water. I got up and felt better but about ten minutes later it all went downhill. I felt exhausted and dizzy as if I overexerted myself, then I saw my vision black out. I recovered for a few seconds but then I fainted again. Next thing I remember waking up lying on the ground with my coworker hovering over me. I was out for half a minute but it felt much longer to me. I’m not sure what other people experience when they’re unconscious but it was as if I went straight to REM sleep.
EMT arrived and loaded me into the ambulance. It was my first time being inside one and I found it fascinating because of the various medical supplies and people it could hold. The EMT were very amiable people which helped me calm down. I’m grateful for them and all the medicine and technology we have readily available in this country. I can’t imagine how people in other countries suffer from the lack of these basic societal needs.
After I arrived at the hospital, the doctor ran tests and an x-ray but didn’t find anything wrong with my vitals or heart. She said it could be dehydration, a heatstroke or something more serious but everything else looked ok.
The ER doctor said to make an appointment with my primary care physician just to double check there isn’t a serious underlying condition. Thankfully I’m ok for the time being but I still feel warm as if I had a fever but I’m not sick.
You’re probably wondering why I wrote this post. This is a way to document notable health issues and to see if there are any patterns, assuming I do have a serious mental or physical health problems.
I’ll update this post once I get word from my physician about my health.
Update
My doctor ran a urinalysis and everything is normal. She wants to run another blood test just to be sure that I don’t have a serious underlying condition.
