Helpful Postmates Delivery Tips

Postmates is a fantastic source of employment for those who need to find a job quickly but have a hard time getting hired. Read more for helpful advice on getting started.

Before you get hired you’ll need the following:

  1. Sign up for an account
  2. A reliable smartphone
  3. Download the Fleet app
  4. Pass a background check
  5. Postmates prepaid card
  6. A reliable car
  7. A social security number

You can see the full list of requirements here.

It’ll take 1-3 days for your account to be approved, and 5-7 days to receive your welcome kit with a Postmates delivery bag and the prepaid credit card. Once you receive it, activate the card in the Fleet app.

The Fleet app is where you’ll be conducting all of your business.

While you’re waiting to get approved, read through their FAQ page and get yourself familiarized with both apps, Postmates and Fleet.

Once you’re approved and ready to deliver, you’ll see these orange areas in your city. These are the hotspots, places where you’re most likely to get a delivery.

What to look out for

If you live in a densely populated area like NYC it’s best you deliver on foot, bike, scooter, or skateboard. Speaking from my personal experience in Orlando, a car is needed for sprawling suburban areas. I’d highly recommend avoiding downtown because parking is hard to find and it’s not free either.

Additionally, lane closures can be unpredictable on I-4 and traffic gets worse the closer you are to the center of the city. Also, every night in downtown Orlando, Church Street and other streets nearby are closed for the nightlife scene. The city closes it around 10 p.m. for pedestrians to travel safely, but at the cost of traffic and time for drivers.

Bottom line, avoid the frustration of delivering to downtown. Always double check the area you’re dropping off especially if it’s an unsafe area at night. You have a choice in not accepting a delivery.

The Fleet app can be slow in processing delivery completions and tips so be patient. It can take up to two days for tips to appear in the app, and half an hour for a delivery to be marked “1 of 1.”
