My First Time on Radio

I’ve reached another milestone, I was on the radio for the first time! This was an amazing opportunity and I have David Gornoski to thank for bringing me onto his show, A Neighbor’s Choice Radio on 93.1 FM.

How did I get this opportunity?

A month ago I made a speech at a Mises Institute event, hosted on the campus of the University of Central Florida. I discussed my personal experiences with the broken college system and explored education alternatives. David Gornoski was also a speaker and he liked my speech enough to invite me on his show.

And not to brag but that was also my first time publicly speaking in front of 100 plus people.

During my radio appearance, I went into further detail about higher education alternatives and what high school graduates can do instead of college.

Speaking on the radio was also a learning experience for me. I was more pressed for time and I had to speak in shorter sound bites with punchy, impactful thoughts. It’s a little more difficult to elaborate on a specific drawn out thought but it encouraged me to explain my ideas in a more succinct manner.

I’d love to be on the radio again and it’s a genuinely fun time especially with the people calling in to voice their opinions and questions.

The Lord’s Prayer

Matthew 6:5-15
“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

The Lord’s Prayer is how Jesus taught us to pray. We say this prayer only in privacy, usually in our bedroom or when we’re alone.

This is also a good opportunity to ask for forgiveness, especially if you have a secret you want to get off your chest.

The Lord’s Prayer is by no means the only way to pray but one of many.

Human Civilization is Older Than You Think

I recently discovered a mind-opening YouTube channel called Ancient Architects and this guy presents a different view of our human history.

Ancient Architects focuses mainly on Ancient Egyptian history and he does his own independent research. His work is free from stagnant and corrupted knowledge from the mainstream institutions.

Super Quick Update on My Progress

If you’ve been following my journey throughout the Praxis program, I’ve been making strides and grew significantly.

I’m still in placement, which is the last module of the boot camp and I’m waiting to be matched with a business partner.

Once I’m matched, I’ll start the apprenticeship and work for my business partner. This stage of the program is also six months.

I’ve got two opportunities lined up for me and I’ll let you know the results.

Stay tuned.

Tips on How to Improve Your Talent Profile

In Praxis, every participant (student) in the placement module has a talent profile instead of a stagnant resume. During placement, participants “apply” to jobs by creating value propositions, which are work projects demonstrating the value we can create for a business. So this post is geared towards current Praxis participants who are looking for a leg up on their profiles.

Every Wednesday, we meet on a live call and occasionally the advisors bring on a guest speaker. This week we had Keagan Henson, CEO of BriteBee.

Here are some tips he suggested on how to improve your talent profile.

  • Your About Me video should be one minute or less, preferably 30 seconds.
  • About Me video, put past irrelevant experiences behind you. If it’s not related to the role you’re applying to then don’t mention it.
  • Update your blog regularly.
  • Blog posts should be short because CEOs and hiring managers don’t have time to read through everything and they usually just skim.
  • LinkedIn – post, comment, and like posts. Tailor your tagline to specific role you’re applying to. Basically treat LinkedIn like Facebook, except for business.
  • 1Million Cups is a great networking organization. Networking works best in small scale conferences.
  • Bottom line – solve a business’ problem

Find Meaning in Your Work

Every week, Praxis’ education director, T.K. Coleman sends out a weekly email to all the students. These emails are insightful and they’re always helpful pieces of advice for our career. I always look forward to seeing T.K.’s emails because they’re inspiring and motivational. This week is about finding meaning in your work by making it your own.

Make it your own!

Whatever “it” is, find a way to put your own unique signature on it.

If you discover a great insight from a book, for instance, find a way to rephrase it with your preferred set of metaphors.

If you hear a story you like, find a way to retell it with your own style of delivery.

If you have a task you need to do, even if it’s doing the dishes or taking out the garbage, find a way to put your own stamp on it.

For everything you do, ask yourself “What does it mean for ME to do these things?”

Imagine that your job replaced you with someone else. What would change besides the mechanical aspects of what you do? What would that company lose in terms of the manner, the charisma, the energy, the tone, and the flair that characterizes YOUR way?

You are more than just your ability to show up and get things done.

Productivity is necessary, but so is personality.

WHAT you do is made indispensable by HOW YOU do it.

Booker T. Washington wrote “Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way.”

That requires more of the things that only you can do, not just more hours doing the same old things.
“That sounds great, TK. But what about universal things that are the same for everyone? Take math for instance. Mathematical truths are objective facts. How can I make THAT my own? And at my job, there’s ONE right method that my supervisor wants me to use for performing certain tasks. There isn’t much room to bring personality to it.”

Great question.

Here’s my answer: Do what you did when you were a child. Bring your imagination along for the ride.

When it comes to math, for instance, we’re dealing with universal concepts that are the same for everyone. But how many people do you know from your math classes who are good at explaining the Mathematical Way to Choose a Toilet? or talking about Math as a Feature of the Universe? That takes more than knowledge of universal facts. It takes personality. It takes the willingness to embrace and express ones own unique mix of curiosity, humor, and idiosyncrasy.

Or take this cold-calling scene from “The Pursuit of Happyness.” It’s impossible to bring imagination to something like that, right? Wrong.
It’s possible to bring imagination to anything. Moreover, it’s not just possible. It’s necessary.

An improv teacher once told me “Acting is not about trying to imitate someone else. It’s about learning how to bring your own feelings, gestures, and impulses to the circumstances defined by the script.”

He was trying to teach me what I later came to understand as the Stanislavski Method: that the “character I perform on the stage” has to be unearthed from the substance of my own soul.

I pass that message to you.

Work is art. Creativity is art. Play is art. Performance is art. Making it through the day is art. Pursuing your dreams is art. It’s all art.

And in order to make great art, you have to learn how to bring yourSELF to the role.

Your performance has to be sourced from the substance of your own soul.  Otherwise, it’s just a cheap and replaceable imitation of someone else.

YOU are not replaceable, but that’s only true if you actually give us you.

Jordan Page the Libertarian Troubadour

I just discovered Jordan Page recently and a mutual friend of ours had invited me to a backyard concert he was hosting. If you’re a libertarian or just a liberty lover looking for good music, check out Jordan Page, he has beautifully blended libertarian messages into his songs.

And they’re pretty darn poetic too.

Sometimes libertarian bands and musicians tend to have a reputation like Christian rock, cheesy and sometimes downright cringey.

But not Jordan Page. In fact, not only is he spreading the message of liberty but also the gospel. Nearly all of his songs have a reference to Christian principles.

His style is acoustic with heavy rock and a hint of country.

This guy used to open for Ron Paul rallies, and just like Ron, Jordan Page has a kind personality and is quite approachable. If you happen to meet him and need prayer or wish to learn more about liberty, strike up a conversation.

Check him out.

The Armor of God

Ephesians 6:10-18 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Whole Armor of God
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

Who is Schaeffer Cox?

Imagine getting arrested for a crime you never committed. You’re brought to trial and the state courts dismiss your case because there’s not enough evidence, but you’re sent to prison anyway on the orders of the Federal government for 26 years. While you were in prison, your wife and two young children have been terrorized by the SWAT twice, and yourself almost beheaded by other prisoners who are also held in an illegal prison called a Communication Management Unit (CMU).

All this came about because you named names and revealed who ran pedophilia rings.

Do you believe the American government is benevolent? If you didn’t think the justice system is corrupt then hear Schaeffer Cox’s story.
