The War of Art: Resistance and Fundamentalism

In my previous post, I discussed the meaning of Resistance and how it causes our creative blocks. Today I’ll be discussing another chapter from The War of Art.
Resistance and Fundamentalism
“The humanist believes that humankind, as individuals, is called upon to co-create the world with God. This is why he values human life so highly.”
In this chapter, the author, Steven Pressfield defines humanists and fundamentalists and why the latter is a form of Resistance.

The War of Art and Resistance

I’m currently reading The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. The lessons that stood out to me were, “Resistance and Love” and “Resistance is Internal.”
Throughout the book, Pressfield explains why we experience creative blocks. It prevents us from achieving dreams like finishing a painting, writing a book, launching a business, or exercising consistently. Continue reading The War of Art and Resistance
Joke or Jest?

Proverbs 26:18-19
18 Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death,
19 Is the man who deceives his neighbor,
And says, “I was only joking!”
“You’re such a snowflake!”
“It’s just a joke.”
There’s a difference between a joke and jesting, the latter means joking at someone’s expense. Nobody enjoys being the butt of a joke and it’s certainly no longer funny when you’re being mocked, ridiculed, or even gaslighted. Laughing at someone instead of with them destroys relationships. All this sounds like obvious advice, but strangers and friends won’t think twice about hurting someone over a petty argument. Continue reading Joke or Jest?
What Can We Learn From Children?
I work for a swim school and I’ve noticed children can teach adults lessons that we’ve forgotten. As we grow up we lose ourselves to collectivism and the pressure to conform. Children aren’t afraid to be themselves.
Kids are direct and honest when expressing their opinions and feelings.
They communicate their wants and needs clearly and succinctly without hesitation. As we grow up, miscommunication becomes common and causes breakups or costly mistakes at work. Let’s learn from their example and don’t be afraid to speak plainly but politely.
Children make friends easily.
I’ve observed kids and how they interact with each other and usually, they want to be friends, once they overcome their initial shyness. They also reserve no judgment until they get to know you better. Children all have a common goal; to have fun and doing that requires other people so they find ways to connect with everyone around them.
We should all learn these lessons from them, children are a constant reminder of how we could make our communities better.
I’ll Give you an Instagram Shout Out

Another happy customer! My friend Vance ordered a shirt from my store and he looks swell in it. He may not look it but he was stoked when it arrived. Thanks for supporting my small shop!
Check out his Instagram for this mofo boss. He’s an anarcho-capitalist, MMA practitioner, and a philosophical man of high virtues. In short, Vance is an interesting guy to talk to about big ideas and liberty. He’s friendlier than he looks so don’t be shy, drop him a message on his Instagram.
It’s a satisfying feeling to see my designs come to life and have actual people wearing it. If you ordered a shirt from me feel free to give a review and send in a photo of yourself wearing it. I’ll give you a shoutout here on my blog and on Instagram!
